This award was first awarded in 2006 in memory of Cyril Whitehead (aka VB Pop) who passed away on 1 April 2006. His grandson Simon Glanz has been playing for the club since Under 12’s and his Pop never missed a game or training session, or an opportunity to partake of a cold VB from the canteen. He was a little aussie battler who never whinged and never gave up despite times of adversity. The following criteria must be met by the winner, or as close as possible to.
-
Always attends training, unless a valid reason exists
-
Never complains about what is asked of him at training or on match days
-
Is not the most naturally talented player on the ground.
-
Someone who shows great improvement and always gives the best they have at all times
-
Never questions the coaches instructions and plays the role asked of them
-
Never criticises his team mates, the umpires or officials, or members of the opposition (ie plays the game in the spirit it was intended)
-
Never gives up even if the team is not having the best of days
Remember this award is not just judged on match day. It also goes on attitude and performance at training. At times throughout the season we will endeavour to attend some training sessions and games to check on the performance of players in the running for this award. Feel free to approach us to discuss anything in relation to this award or these criteria.
This award is going to be an ongoing award donated by the family of VB Pop each year, it has only goes to the Under14's who meet the above criteria because thats the last team he
watched before he died.
Carron & Darryl Scott
